Reading
Language Arts
For Language Arts, we practice a balanced literacy approach: reading, writing and spelling are integrated and worked on simultaneously. We will be studying a variety of genres throughout the year. We will also practice guided reading to ensure individual student attention to their academic level. Independent reading is an integral part of our Language Arts program.

How to help your child with reading at home:
- · Read aloud to your child or have him/her read aloud to you. You can take turns reading a page.
- · Reread familiar stories
- · Share personal connections to the book they are reading
- · Ask your child to summarize what they read (ask them about the main characters, the setting, the main events, the problem and the solution)
